Movie Review: Titanic 3D
Article By: Li Ping Irene Yap

No, Titanic 3D isn't going to be a completely new look at the same old story. There's nothing new about it at all - except that it's going to be presented in 3D. What we're going to see in theaters in April 2012 is the same Titanic we saw back in 1997 - the one with Leondaro DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Yes, the very same. Only this time it's going to be in 3D.

Do we need a plot summary here? It's the Titanic. She's making her maiden voyage to America. On April 15, 1912, the Titanic, purported to be unsinkable, hit an iceberg and sank. Yes. It sank. In the middle of the night it was women and children into the life boats, men and crew over the side. 1,503 people died while the band played on deck. The finest luxury liner ever to hit the seas, said to be unsinkable and indestructible, and she sank in the middle of her very first voyage.

It's the scenes after the Titanic hits the iceberg that have the biggest impact on the audience. Watching the destruction as the ship slowly upended, hearing the crack as it split in two, and listening to the thousands of victims as the fell or jumped into the freezing water. It's very realistic and with the addition of 3D the movie should have even more of an emotional impact.

The characters played by DiCaprio and Winslet are purely fictional but the story of their romance fits seamlessly with what must have actually happened on board ship that fateful night.. Sort of a shipboard romance between Romeo and Juliet. Boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, girls family says no to the scoundrel, boy drowns saving girl's life, girl carries boy in her heart for the rest of her life.

In between of course, we have an entire romance novel. Jack and Rose tour the ship, and Rose gets to see how the other half lives down in steerage. It's even more difficult for Jack because he has to don a tux and try to blend in with the elite passengers in the formal dining room. Then they both get caught up in the excitement of a below-decks dance and make-out session, an afternoon of nude sketching and the intrigue of a jilted fiance bearing a magnificent blue diamond pendant.

Since it's actually the same movie, Titanic 3D was written, directed and produced by the same man who handled those duties back in 1997 - James Cameron. In 1997 it was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, playing Jack and Rose, two star-crossed lovers in a doomed romance, were both relatively unknown actors before starring in Titanic and now they're two of the most famous actors in Hollywood.

Original Article URL: Movie Review: Titanic 3D

Find out more movie comments for Titanic 3D.
